The California Enterprise Zone Program

The program was designed to address the needs of economically depressed areas in California.

These special state and local incentives encourage local investment, stimulate employment growth and economic development. Firms that conduct business activities within the boundaries of an enterprise zone automatically qualify for special California Tax Enterprise Zone Credits and Incentives..

There are currently 42 active enterprise zones located throughout California. The Enterprise Zone Program offers a wide range of business incentives such as state income tax credits, property tax abatements, utility tax exemptions, sales and use tax credits, and interest deductions. The most significant Enterprise Zone tax incentives are the Hiring Tax Credit and the Sales & Use Tax Credit.
